Trained as a bard by Marjolaine Leliana became bored of her tutor and their life, wanting to live differently. Messing with people's lives wasn't exciting enough, with Leliana enjoying acts that were riskier, and bloodier. Marjolaine had noticed the change in Leliana and planned to strike though Leliana got there first, killing her mentor and lover.

Leliana returned to Orlais before the Blight hit, turning her skills into profit. Leliana became an assassin for hire -- very skilled, very sought after, and very cocky. She doesn't care about the people involved or who she has to kill just how much she's getting paid.
